GEMS Spring Meeting 2006: Call For Speakers

An open invitation from Greg Stuart, GEMS President-Elect

Greetings! I am planning the date and agenda for the upcoming GEMS Spring Meeting, to be held at the North Carolina Biotechnology Center in April 2006.

I have tentatively booked the N.C.B.C. for Monday April 24, 2006. Other possible dates are May 01, 05, 09, 10, 11, or 12. However, unless anyone has a strong opinion in favor of another date, let's plan to meet on April 24, 2006.

At today's Board Meeting, we decided (majority vote) that the theme of the meeting would be "Antimutagenesis and Anticarcinogenesis" (tentative title). This topic broadly encompasses many areas of interest to GEMS members, including:

- diet & cancer e.g. dietary antimutagens, antioxidants, mutagens
- oxidative damage; reactive oxygen species
- individual susceptibility, e.g. SNPs; phase I and II metabolism (P450s; GSTs)
- DNA repair
- inhibition of tumor angiogenesis; estrogen receptor modulators; apoptosis

At this time I would ask that people email me (stuart@niehs.nih.gov) any suggestions that they might have for Speakers, plus any additional comments.

I look forward to your responses, and/or meeting you at the Spring Meeting!

Sincerely yours,

Greg Stuart
